The Accidental Ugly Duckling

Many have made the comment recently that I've just suddenly blossomed into this swan ala ugly duckling. This though mostly coming from people who've known me for only the last few years. But somehow I'd think that most of my other friends are more than inclined to agree.

Now, I'll be the first to confide in you and say that I myself an just as much a fashion victim as any one. But perhaps I'm just wiser that making my fashion disaster choices nowadays. Or I've just come into my own and have comes to appreciate what the goddess above has deemed me worthy of...ie this body of mine. I'm inclined to agree with the latter... I mean, I follow trends...I buy heaps of clothes..most of which end up at the back of my overfilled closet and some others in heaps in hopes of being reconstructed into something resembling fashionable......

Most of what I buy is accidental. Hence perhaps therefor my current penchant and stylistic slant towards more bohemian stylings....or perhaps, all outfits should be that way. Happy style accidents. Many a time have I just bought something, without even thinking what to where it with only to find...why it would go perfectly with this and that......seriously, I don't plan my wardrobe it just happened.

Like this hair tie I bought from this random street vendor in Taipei. I walked past and thought hey it's cheap and it looks good. Then I come back and I get compliments for it saying how it looks great with Asian hair (ie black). I'm happy....I just thought it looked sparkly......

Yours truly just went for her first audition since coming back to Tanah Melayu. She thinks it went well.

She was casting for the role of a busybody kecoh happy-go-lucky poor little girl rich who like to live it large....sound like anyone you know? (hint hint - yours truly) huh....art imitates life.

Layla hopes she gets it. Could really use the money. Especially since in a fit of rage she returned mommy her plastic....gasp!! I know..... she of course plans to somehow reacquire said plastic before mommy dearest runs back down South and hopefully before the month is out...

Layla really wants to go watch Ethan Hawke in Singapore.....

Kel and Melly Weekend

Oh My Gawd....what a weekend. Second weekend back and already such a whirlwind.

Right, so my Kel and Melly Weekend really started last night when I went to join Ashaari and 16 other semi-random people to go watch the new Zack Synder film Watchmen. Among those there was Kel and Melly....they're a single entity really rarely will you fin one without the other....right so Watchmen last night 10 pm. From there it was us all the way til like about just now.

After Watchmen, a bunch of us decided to go hang at a mamak in TTDI, and we all chatted about mutual interests and disinterests. Raised hell and mini arguments, coupled with Jon's disbelief that I'm fluent in geek speak. What's so wrong for a girl like yours truly to use the word 'canon' when describing the Star Wars Expanded Universe? Anyways.....fun Sat night out basically...

Then today...me and Dorian did the 2somes marathon today at KLPac. I knew Kel and Melly were coming too, so yesterday night the 3 of us had decided to do dim-sum and bak kut teh in between the 3 plays...Boy what I rush! And intense too! A pork filled Sunday ensues....

Have to mention I thoroughly enjoyed Qahar's Mamet piece. Mamet's just awesome and I totally fell in love with Mal the Actor again....as appose to just plain Mal, who Modee pointed out just now with whom I have to semi-grudgingly agree is kinda sleazy sometimes.......when Mal came on I just felt this impulse to rush the stage and just kiss him! >.<. Life in Theatre just whole- heatedly and soulfully reminded me what good theatre can be like, should be like, why I love it and aspire to be.

At KLPac I saw the Ex for the first time really since hitting local shores. I half avoided him with the plague. No unnecessary 'confrontations' please, thank you ever much. In other boy news, Jamie, Mal's bestie came right up to talk to me!! Oh lawrd did that make me feel like a school girl again....*giggles* lol......while at that same moment, Ex comes over to rub my arm and say goodbye...but since I was talking to Jamie...ahh...the heart melts. That was after Mal's show, which was second. Then at night after Kimmie's show, The Bench, I was just walking past a group of Chinese theatre types when I looked and momentarily locked eyes with Berg, my extremely dreamy and talented Chinese theatre god. I could have sworn my eyes widened in surprise when I realised who he was....he'd cut is hair and looks thinner, guess TV does add 10lbs.... which made me beat an extremely hasty dash towards Kel and Melly. Eeck!! Berg was looking so totally Lapsap in green tracks and huge red speck.

Lawrd how I miss Lapsap parties!! Can't wait to go to the next one!!!

Kel and Melly were just awesome company throughout the whole day. Better than Dorian, who in between shows, like went skirt chasing. Tsk tsk......and Kel can be such a sweetheart!! At the end of both nights he dropped me off to wherever I was going next.......which in more for tonight really since after KLPac I headed to SS17 for a karaoke sesh with Syatters and Modee.....And Melly.......we're just on the same wavelength. It was just indescribable.

Aw..... catching Watchmen with Ashaari then watching 3 plays and seeing Jamie AND Berg both in the same day and place with unbeatable company ending with an awesome and throat soring karaoke sesh? Priceless...

Gawd, it's good to be home.....

Short

Urgh.....I really can not believe I just spent NT 2K on a pair of stockings which currently looks like I will never be wearing, ever........I really need to stop impulse shopping!!

I'm like a shopaholic on a rampage in foreign countries with funky monetary numeration systems (to be absolutely honest in any foreign country).....like when a dollar isn't a dollar...give me that decimal point anyday!

But anyways.......the stockings are suppose to look like this.....

But on me, they barely even touch my ankles. A part of me wants to return them....and another part of me wants to keep them.....urgh....

Just Arrived

Some clothes I ordered a couple of days ago off the internet have just arrived. And I have to say I am a tad disappointed. But then again, I should have known better. Most things that are too good to be true, usually are. This will teach me to buy cheap clothes off the internet. Quality costs money my love, you get what you pay for. Of the 6 pieces I bought, I'm only truly satisfied with one, and thankfully I caved and decided to get it at the last minute! Without it, oi vey indeed. The rest just make moi look fat. Ugh. You'll most likely be seeing them at the next flea market then. C'est la vie. That'll teach you......

Thankfully I did spend some dosh on some rather unique pieces this week...ah the power of debit cards. If you haven't yet, do go apply for the Visa debit cards by Maybank, so useful! And financially, I'm so much more supportive of debit cards. I mean you should always only spend what you have, right? But that doesn't mean I'm going to be returning mummy's supplementary card anytime soon. Heaven knows there's always such a thing as an emergency. A fashion emergency. ^_~

STYLE capital

Certain cities just simply force one to be fashionable. Surrounding you with constant reminders, albeit many fashion victims.

Take Taipei, my current adopted city, for example. Never before have I felt the constant pressure to be fashion conscious. Albeit, I've not really lived in any of the other major fashion capitals of the world, like Tokyo, New York, LA or Paris just to name a few. But I have lived in London...

Though perhaps I just wasn't in a more fashion conscious frame of mind back in my collegiate days, nonetheless I never really felt the need to dress up all the time. Or urge to look like I've just stepped of the set of Gossip Girl or Sex and the City. To me, London was a very forgiving kind of fashion city, perhaps it was also my circle of friends, non-fashionistas the lot of us, but hey who can afford to look like Posh Spice on a shoe string budget? Well, frankly a lot of people can but I just couldn't be bothered. It was all about individuality back then or some unique brand or find I couldn't get back in Malaysia, or something punk and goth from Camden. Now though, I'm still all that plus It needs to be fashionable. Oh but fashionable is such a subjective word. But I wander...

Back to Taipei. I walk on the street and just feel so pressured. Fashion is something you need to relish, it's where you show your individuality. Here you have all these girls who are so trying to be what constitute locally as being hip. But I have to say most of them are just fashion victims or perhaps worst still just blend into each other. There this constant insistent need by the masses to go out all kitted out in false eyelashes, makeup and full gear. It all just leaves me thinking how tiring. This whole throng of fashionalbe copy-cats, who all read the same magazines and watch the same fashion oriented shows. How boring!

Though perhaps it is just my own boredom of seeing just Asian faces in the throng, all the time , looking all exactly alike. This constant sea of yellow is a far cry from the myriad of skin colours I get back home in KL.

So I concede.

Perhaps Mark is right, I do miss home.

ps: for those politically inclined, I myself am yellow and would proudly call myself a chink, thank you very much.
